Herseth
Sandlin visits Wakpa Sica center
January 10 2008 | Associated Press
FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) The Wakpa Sica (WAHK'-pah
SEECH-uh) Reconciliation Center near Fort Pierre
is trying to move forward amid uncertainty over
funding.
The
project was authorized eight years ago at a cost
of $18 million from the federal government. Less
than half of that has been provided so far, even
though construction was expected to be completed
next year.
It
received $245,000 last year. Congressman Stephanie
Herseth Sandlin says she's optimistic it will
get that much or more next year.
The
project will include a mediation center, a tribal
supreme court and exhibits.
