Pactola Water Legislation Advances

Legislation that will help assure more water for Rapid City as the community continues to grow in the future has cleared the US House of Representatives.

Representative Stephanie Herseth, who sponsored the bill, says it's slightly different from the Senate version and the difference must be ironed out before the measure goes to the president.

The measure will provide Rapid City with a much larger share of water from Pactola Reservoir while reducing reservoir access for the shrinking irrigation sector east of the city.

Herseth says the bill will help ensure that there's enough water in the future for Rapid City and other area communities.
